Our Story

Chance to Build was established in 2019 alongside its sister organisation, Chance to Learn. Together, they represent a unique approach to combining traditional craftsmanship with meaningful community impact.

Chance to Build is a professional timber workshop that designs, manufactures, and supplies high-quality wooden products, from handcrafted benches to premium chopping boards, using sustainably sourced materials including FSC-certified European oak and Welsh redwood. Our clients include schools, GP surgeries, local authorities, charities, and private homeowners who value heritage, quality, and craftsmanship.

Alongside our commercial work, Chance to Learn provides structured, workshop-based support to young people who are struggling to engage with mainstream education. Through carefully guided mentoring and practical learning, entirely separate from our production work, we create a space where these pupils can build confidence, develop life skills, and experience the pride that comes from showing up, creating something, and being valued.

What we Build

At Chance to Build, we take pride in creating timeless, durable timber pieces built to last for generations. Every item is made by hand in our Swansea workshop by experienced craftspeople, using locally sourced materials that reflect our commitment to sustainability and quality.

Whether it's a bespoke garden bench or a refined oak chopping board, our products are shaped with intention and care, designed to stand the test of time, both in form and meaning.

Supporting Young People

Chance to Learn works closely with local schools across South Wales, inviting small groups of students to our workshop on structured, supervised placements. These pupils are typically aged 13–15 and have found it difficult to thrive in mainstream school environments.

Here, in a safe and supportive setting, they take part in non-commercial practical activities, develop social and emotional skills, and gain a sense of purpose and routine. All sessions are led by trained, DBS-checked staff with a focus on mentoring, consistency, and care.

This work does not involve our commercial product line, instead, it gives young people a parallel path toward self-esteem, responsibility, and the confidence to grow beyond the barriers they’ve faced.

Locally rooted, socially driven

We believe craftsmanship and community are not separate, they’re part of the same ethos. Whether we’re delivering a high-quality oak board to a customer, or helping a student take pride in their first completed project, our goal is the same: to build something that matters.

We’re proud to be based in Swansea, proud of the work we do, and even prouder of the difference we make, one product, one pupil, one day at a time.
